Our standards & practices

Health testing & screening

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? If your breed is prone to health issues, what are they, and what testing practices do you have in place?
Answer. Yes.Health testing and screening out of all known issues is a critical aspect of our choice of springers and breeding program. This includes screening hips, eyes and DNA testing for genetic diseases (where tests are possible). As a result our dogs are sound and healthy and we expect our puppies to benefit from this approach. We value good temperaments very highly and assess temperament scientifically - ESS should not be aggressive dogs but instead biddable and happy. We have researched our breed extensively and benefitted from national and international mentorship from breed experts and through opportunities to assess and evaluate our breed. We imported our breeding pair from a renowned and highly awarded kennel in Sweden, and gone on to import semen from Europe from dogs we have personally met. This has ensured that we bring in genetic diversity into Australia to the benefit of our breed.

Preparation & socialisation

Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Answer. Yes.Our puppies are raised in the family home and exposed to all the usual household noises. They interact with our older dogs and a wide variety of visitors including children. They are brought up in a pristine environment in the SW of the country, we back on to State forest and live in a tranquil environment. We provide our puppies with a wide variety of soft play equipment and activities to enjoy in their waking hours.

Placement & matching

Question. Is making sure your puppies go to the right homes a priority? How do you ensure they are placed in loving, responsible homes?
Answer. Yes.We make a great effort to match our puppies to their new families by asking would be owners questions about their lifestyle and assess their fit with our people loving breed. We temperament test our puppies to ensure the right puppy goes to the right family. We meet new owners to assess as well as to meet our other dogs.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Answer. Yes.We ask open questions of potential new owners to assess suitability for our breed. We provide lifelong support to new owners on health, grooming, training and feeding - we love that our new families stay in touch and share their stories.

Ongoing support

Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Answer. Yes.We provide lifelong support as above.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Answer. Yes.We request that the buyer contacts us in the first instance should they need to re-home. We will do all we can to support them and the help find a new loving family for puppies.
