Brittany Dog Breeder - NT

The Brittany is a stylish medium-sized breed developed in France, the breed is not common in Australia but is becoming more popular. The smallest of the pointing breeds a good Brittany will be between 45cm and 52cm at the wither, maturing to around 15kg. I would describe their temperament as attentive, affectionate, happy, adaptable, intelligent, and bold. The Brittany does enjoy being active, their friendly manner, attractive appearance, compact size and low maintenance coat makes them an easy companion for people with active lifestyles. A versatile breed that can be trained to compete at the highest level of competition for the sports enthusiast or enjoyed by the household with the most basic of training, they are also in demand by hunters who hone their natural abilities and skill to seek and retrieve.

Brittany's learn quickly and respond well to positive training methods, they are suitable for any skill levels and do well with even a novice trainer. When well-socialized a Brittany is playful and friendly with other animals, people and children.

For the Brittany coat maintenance is fairly simple, a daily rub over to check for knots or burs and a more purposeful groom when required. The coat is smooth and not very long so does not attract or keep dirt, they do shed but it's not much, your usual house cleaning would keep floors living areas tidy.

I got my first Brittany many years ago have been in love with them since. From my current show team to the youngest of pups and upcoming litters, I will continue to do my best by these wonderful dogs. I see a bright future for the development of this breed in Australia and I am thrilled to be a part of it.

If you would like more information about the Brittany breed or our breeding program I am happy to provide more details. We do show and breed our dogs but mostly they are our pets and live the with us as much loved companions. When we breed our puppies are the center of our attention. We raise them in our home and devote many hours to raising well socialised and trained pups ready to go out into the world and be GOOD DOGS.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
ANKC has no requirements for health testing for the Brittany. As an ethical breeder wanting to breed only the best for myself and our puppy owners all our dogs used for breeding are hip and elbow scores and these results are available on request. Before we breed and while pups are being raised the Dam and Pups have regular vet checks, these are also available on request.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
Two books I recommend to anyone thinking about getting a puppy are by Ian Dunbar "Before you get your puppy" and "After you get your puppy" I aim to socialise and expose my pups in the manner suggested in these books. I encourage and support anyone who has a puppy to follow these guides as well.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, are tailored to the new owner and puppy match. If you want a pup as a companion the limit register and and age appropriate de-sexing are standard. If you are wanting a pup for Showing or Breeding this needs to be discussed early and planned for.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
The buyer questionnaire greatly helps in matching a suitable pup to its new owner and also prompts the buyer to consider if the Brittany is suited to them and if so what character traits they really want in their pup. Most of the pups we breed travel interstate so we video chat via messenger or other applications to introduce ourselves, our adult dogs and puppies. Each litter has its own Facebook page and we share videos' of how the pups are living and any training or socialisation.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
Before a pup goes to its new home we ensure the person caring for the pup has a network of support through trainers, vets, groomers and online recourses. Each litter has its own Facebook page just for the owners of that litter. The FB page is useful to keep in contact and it allows owners to have a greater network with related pups of the same age.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a puppy or dog if for some reason the new family are no longer able to care for it?
Yes
The situation or intention of a puppy owner at 12 weeks may not be the same and the situation or intention of that same person 5 to 15 years later. Changes happen and we understand this. We prefer to support the owner to rehome the pup as they are the ones that will know the dog best. Dogs have come back to us while the owners get re established after family breakdown or during other crises, respite care is our preference to re homing in the first instance. However any dog we have breed is welcome to return home to us at anytime, for any reason.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Yes
6 weeks free pet insurance through Pet Cover.
