Kosmos Sighthounds is based in both Alice Springs and Adelaide. We are ruled by a pack of Italian Greyhounds who are family, and we occasionally breed a litter of these delightful little sighthounds (though currently we have no puppies available). Further information regarding puppies is available on our website (puppies page), and some information on our dogs. Anyone wishing to add a Kosmos puppy to their family in the future is welcome to complete and return our puppy questionnaire. Our mission is to find the best possible homes for our puppies and have new owners become part of the Kosmos family, who love keeping in touch with one another.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
I send away for the only health tests currently available for my breed, from UC Davis in California in USA. These tests are for: Autosomal Recessive Amelogenesis Imperfecta(ARAI) or Familial Enamel Hypoplasia; Susceptibility to Primary Closed Angle Glaucoma; Susceptibility to PRA. I have also had full breed profile DNA tests done by Orivet, which tests for a number of traits in addition to testing for the same Amelogenesis Imperfecta (Italian Greyhound Type) that the UC Davis tests cover.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
My puppies are raised in my house, and it is a busy household. They are exposed to all the normal household activities and noises. We live on acreage so they also get to meet horses, and they are able to explore the outside world once old enough, without leaving the property and running the risk of coming into contact with contagious diseases. There are always numerous visitors keen to come and meet puppies (including children), and they meet many different people during these visits.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
I have an extensive puppy questionnaire which has served me well and found the most wonderful homes for all my puppies. I also give a desexing rebate once puppies are desexed and desexing certificate is provided. All who have taken any of my puppies into their homes have become firm friends and we have a chat group where they can share pictures of their puppies, and ask any questions they may have. I would always take any of my puppies back should they become unwanted, and be involved in finding a new family for them. I rarely get the opportunity for face-to-face personal interviews as I live in a very remote area and so far none of my puppies has ended up in the same town as me. However, with social media communication is easy, and I have always had great communication with puppy owners well before puppies are old enough to leave home. When I am interstate, I always catch up with puppies in the areas I visit.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
See previous question.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
Most communication is via email and online chatting, as I live in Alice Springs which is remote and far from the major centres where my puppies live. My chat group has daily posts, photos and comments from most of my puppy families, and regular communications from all puppy families. It is one of the best things I thought of yet!! My daughter in law is as involved with our dogs as I am, and has often "babysat" puppies we bred for their owners.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a puppy or dog if for some reason the new family are no longer able to care for it?
Yes
Absolutely. I stress strongly that if any of my pups has to be rehomed for any reason, I will help and indeed *want* (insist even!) on being involved in where it goes. If a pup ever needs to be relocated urgently, it can come back to me.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
Yes
Puppies leave with 6 weeks of free insurance from PetCover and new families are encouraged to upgrade this trial policy to a full policy at the end of the 6 weeks.
