Pointer Dog Breeder - NSW

Pointers became a part of our life with our first Barragan pointer, who was a lovely girl and great deer hunting companion. We breed for temperament, strength and ability in the field resulting in achievements in the field hunting deer in the Victorian high country and quail on our large farm, tracking, scenting, obedience and agility trials.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
Though we do not DNA test, we understand the potential issues relevant to the Pointer breed and breed to avoid such possibilities. We do not breed regularly. Careful consideration is given to which dog will Sire our puppies and also to the dogs history.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
Though we live in a farm environment, puppies, once they are vaccinated are socialised at every opportunity.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
Puppies are vet checked as per their individual pet record and examination conducted by our Veterinarian. Any issues are discussed with the potential new owner of the puppy. Upon leaving us to go to their new home, the puppy is provided with a puppy pack including food, general information, worming tablets and their Pet passport (their health record? Potential owners are ALWAYS interviewed via phone about their breed knowledge and their intent with the puppy, i.e. house dog or hunting companion.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
Interviewing the potential new owner is so important. The right home avoids having to re-home the puppy which can come about if the new owner does not understand the commitment a new puppy requires. The puppy's new owner is asked about fencing, children, activities puppy will be included in (with the family) how the puppy will be accommodated (inside or outside) and their future health needs such as vaccination and worming.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
Owners can call on me at any time for any issue. Sometimes its just general advice about puppy behavior, feeding and sleeping issues. Often its just a catch up to let me know how the puppy is getting on, usually backed up with pictures.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a puppy or dog if for some reason the new family are no longer able to care for it?
Yes
We assist puppy rehoming by working with the owners, find out why they puppy needs to be rehomed and connect with the appropriate breed rescue, English Pointers Rescue Australia, if for any reason I cannot assist.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
No
But we do advise that pet insurance should be considered.
