Newfoundland Dog Breeder - Stockleigh, QLD

As preservation breeders, we breed for health, breed type and temperament. All of our dogs are health tested for Hip and Elbow dysplasia, Cystenuria and Heart Echocardiogram and full DNA profile.

Our dogs compete in conformation shows and we have Champions on both sides of the Tasman, with several dual New Zealand and Australian Champions. We also have competed in carting events and water rescue training, both sports are part of the working aspect for this breed.

We support our owners 100% with a comprehensive puppy manual containing information on rearing, training, feeding , grooming and general maintenance of the new puppy and we are always available for questions and advice through the life of the dog. We conduct pre-purchase information webinars for new prospective owners to ensure every aspect of ownership is covered and all the nuances of the breed are explained. We ensure our owner selection is rigorous because we know this is not a breed for everyone and certainly not for the faint of heart. Our community spans both Australia and New Zealand with many enthusiastic and knowledgeable owners happy to share their experience with the breed. We want everyone to have the best experience with the breed we love so we give our knowledge freely to our owners.

Breeder Questionnaire

Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
I conduct all health testing available to our breed although not required by the governing body I do it anyway. I have breed mentors who are knowledgeable about old lines and the health issues that may have come through from certain dogs and I conduct COI to limit reproduction of any health issues. I also import semen when required to expand the gene pool.
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
Part of encouraging visitors to come when puppies are small is a good way to get them used to different people. Providing a changing environment and introducing new things to it. The puppy culture methods are something we enclude in our rearing to grown well mannered confident puppies.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
Yes I have all of the above mentioned and I prefer to choose owners I feel will have an open communication style as I'm not not a transactional breeder who sells puppies and then hopes not to hear from the owners again. I like to be contacted, I love the questions from new owners and I particularly love the photos of them enjoying their Newfoundland.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
This is one of my highest priorities outside of breeding and health choices. This breed in the wrong hands can be a nightmare for the wrong owner. I like to meet the people and I like to see them interact with my dogs. I also don't sugar coat the dedication required to own this breed.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
My owners are in contact through social media groups I set up for them to interact. I have created a great community of owners who are more than happy to pass what they have learnt about living with this breed to other new owners.
Question. In the long term, do you assist with re-homing a puppy or dog if for some reason the new family are no longer able to care for it?
Yes
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
No
I have found that free pet insurance has a stand down period of 72hrs, I recommend the owners research and engage a provider that suits them
